Rising Number of STD Infections in New York a Big Concern
Health Department Officers in New York are disturbed over recent reports that signify an increase in the number of STD infections being reported. While the growth may not seem to be alarming to some, any escalation in the number of documented cases is always combined with a rise in unreported transmissions.
“Whereas a leading problem was formerly a lack of easily available STD testing, that is no longer the case with the escalating number of ways that people can get STD testing in New York. Both the county and community health departments have attempted to make affordable testing available to people of all income levels, and confidential testing organizations have also been a good source for confidential STD testing services.”
“There appears to be a preconception that if you are not demonstrating any symptoms, then you are not infected.” stated one local New York official. “Nevertheless, any physician will advise you that many STDs show little to no symptoms, while the chance of spreading is just the same.” The only way to decelerate this accelerated growth is for all at risk individuals to obtain regular STD testing for all major infections.”
“If you think you are at risk, or simply just do not know, the right step is to contact your local health department or search on the internet for STD testing services in order to identify a local medical laboratory that can evaluate your level of risk.”
